Ingredients

  • 500 gground beef
  • 12 piecescorn tortillas
  • 1 medium, dicedonion
  • 3 pieces, mincedgarlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoonschili powder
  • 1 tablespooncumin
  • 125 mlbeef broth
  • 1 teaspoonsalt
  • 0.5 teaspoonblack pepper
  • 2 tablespoonsolive oil

Instructions

  1. 1HEAT THE OIL AND SAUTÉ AROMATICS: Pour 2 tablespoons of olive oil into a large skillet over medium-high heat and allow it to shimmer for about 1 minute. Add the diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until the raw garlic smell disappears and the mixture becomes very aromatic.
  2. 2BROWN THE GROUND BEEF: Add the 500g of ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon or spatula into small crumbles. Cook over medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is completely cooked through and no pink remains. The meat should be evenly browned with no lumps, and any excess liquid should have mostly evaporated, leaving a slightly dry, crumbly texture.
  3. 3ADD THE SPICE BLEND: Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chili powder and 1 tablespoon of cumin evenly over the cooked ground beef. Stir well to coat all the meat particles with the spices, cooking for about 1-2 minutes over medium heat. The spices will bloom and release their essential oils, creating a rich, fragrant base that gives the tacos authentic Mexican flavor.
  4. 4SEASON AND SIMMER: Pour 125ml of beef broth into the skillet along with 1 teaspoon of salt and 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir everything together thoroughly and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 8-10 minutes, allowing the liquid to reduce and the flavors to concentrate into a flavorful, slightly thick sauce that coats the meat without being wet or soupy.
  5. 5WARM THE TORTILLAS: While the beef simmers, stack your 12 corn tortillas and wrap them tightly in a damp paper towel or clean kitchen towel. Microwave the wrapped tortillas for 1-2 minutes until they're warm and pliable, or alternatively, heat them one at a time in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 15-20 seconds per side until warm and slightly charred. Warm tortillas are much easier to handle and won't crack or fall apart when filled with the beef mixture.
  6. 6ASSEMBLE AND SERVE: Place one warm tortilla in your hand or on a plate and spoon approximately 3-4 tablespoons of the cooked seasoned beef into the center. Fold the tortilla in half gently and arrange on a serving platter. Serve immediately with your choice of fresh toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, cilantro, and lime wedges on the side, allowing each diner to customize their tacos to their preference.
